Christian beliefs are centred on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. While there are numerous denominations within Christianity, several core beliefs are generally shared among Christians:
- Belief in One God: Christians
believe in one God who exists in three person
s, known as the Holy Trinity—Father (God), Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. This concept emphasizes the unity of God in three distinct persons. - Jesus Christ as the Son of God: Central to Christian faith is the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human. Christians believe that Jesus was sent to earth to save humanity from sin through his death and resurrection.
- The Bible: Christians regard the Bible as the inspired word of God. It is divided into the Old Testament, which shares texts with the Jewish faith, and the New Testament, which details the life and teachings of Jesus, as well as the early Christian church.
- Salvation: Christians believe that through Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection, humanity is offered salvation and eternal life. This salvation is viewed as a gift from God that individuals receive through faith in Jesus Christ.
- The Resurrection and Second Coming of Christ: Christians believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead three days after his crucifixion, demonstrating his victory over sin and death. They also believe in the future return of Christ, when he will judge the living and the dead and establish God’s kingdom.
- The Church: The Christian community, or Church, is believed to be the body of Christ on earth. It plays a central role in the worship of God, the teaching of Christian doctrine, and the practice of sacraments such as baptism and communion.
- Love and Ethical Living: Christians are called to love God and love their neighbours as themselves. Ethical living, guided by the teachings of Jesus, is emphasized, including acts of charity, justice, and forgiveness.
Different denominations may have additional beliefs and practices, but these core tenets form the foundation of the Christian faith.
